Twitter: A Picture’s Worth 140 Characters!

Twitter: A Picture’s Worth 140 Characters!

Twitter is looking a lot more like Facebook – beyond just a much-hyped IPO. Twitter has added photo and video previews to users’ timelines, both on the web and on mobile. Tweets that contain photos or Vine links will automatically preview those images. The change helps Twitter catch up to Facebook’s expanded emphasis on images.

Twitter’s update affects the tactics of public relations pros and marketers alike. From a public relations perspective, visuals should become a more central part of social media efforts, particularly for brands that want to communicate their message with pictures and videos. And from an advertising standpoint, research across social platforms shows that users are far more likely to click on an ad (or message) if it’s accompanied by a visual image. Advertisers can now post sponsored tweets with more visual appeal.
