Let’s get visual

Images are becoming increasingly important to social media success. Facebook and Twitter have both completed recent upgrades that make images and video more prominent in their streams. Furthermore, Instagram, owned by Facebook, and Vine, owned by Twitter, are surging in popularity and swelling with new features.

We know that images are important for high-quality social media, but what is important for high-quality images? Here are some tips for capturing your brand in the best light:

  1. Obey the Rule of Thirds: When composing a photo, think of your image divided into equal parts by two horizontal and two vertical lines. The key elements of your photo should be placed along these lines, with the main focus at their intersection. The iPhone’s camera feature allows you to activate grid lines on the screen for easier composition.
  2. Use fill-in flash: On bright days, the objects in your photo may be covered in shadows, particularly if the sun is behind them. Use your camera’s flash even in broad daylight to help balance the exposure of your outdoor images.
  3. Get up close and personal: Don’t be afraid to move in close to the elements in your photo. Many great photos have been ruined by too much sky and ground, and not enough of the central subject.
