Taking Advantage of Trends on Twitter


How to trend on Twitter?
That’s a question asked by many marketers.

First, let’s look at how trending works. Twitter uses an algorithm that ranks topics that are immediately popular and tailors them to you based on who you are following and your location. Trends up to the second are shown in the left-hand column on your Twitter home page.

You can change your settings and see trends on a global level or even customize them for specific geographic areas such as country or city by selecting “change” in the trends box.

Social Influence, should you care?

As a follow up to our eTip on social influence measurement tools we’re digging a little deeper into social influence and how it relates to the measurement of the effectiveness of your social media efforts. Social influence is a huge buzz term within our industry right now. Brands, celebrities and even topical trends can have this digital influence. So why should you care? Because, “influencers” are telling us what to do on a regular basis across the social media landscape, and people tend to trust others they believe have credibility and influence.
